Most know that Janet Jackson comes from a big family, but recently the superstar singer unveiled just how huge it really is.
During a recent BBC interview with Scott Mills, the Rhythm Nation songstress broke down her family tree, beyond her famous siblings, which include the late Michael Jackson . Scott first asked Janet about her relation to the one-of-a-kind singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder .
“[Stevie’s] our cousin,” Janet confirmed. “Not a lot of people know that he’s our cousin.”

The Good Times alum explained that Stevie was her siblings’ cousin on their “mother’s side.” As Janet continued, she name-dropped more legendary celebs to who the Jackson family were related.
“So is Tracy Chapman [and] so is Samuel L. Jackson,” Janet added, revealing that they too were also cousins. A mind-blown Scott then asked her what Stevie, Tracy, and Samuel were to her, prompting her to confirm again that each person was her “cousin.”
Janet’s revelation sparked much conversation on X, formerly Twitter, with many sharing that they were surprised to learn that Tracy and Samuel were a part of the Jackson family.
“I knew about Stevie Wonder but not the other two!!,” one X user shared. A second noted, “Wow didn’t know this! The family genes.” Another added, “And now Samuel L. Jackson?! I need to visually see a family tree cuz WHAT?! I knew of Stevie as I got older and still shocked about that but Sam & Tracey too?? LEGACY!”
Someone else mentioned: “How is this the first time I’m learning that Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Samuel L. Jackson, and Tracy Chapman are cousins?!”
Others were impressed that so many talented entertainers were centralized in one family.
“Janet Jackson casually name dropping Stevie Wonder, Tracy Chapman, and Samuel L. Jackson as all being her cousins. Such an ICONIC family tree,” one music fan wrote.
“Janet Jackson just casually announcing that besides Stevie Wonder, Samuel L. Jackson and Tracy Chapman also are her cousins,” added someone else. “They truly are the most talented family in history.” One other agreed, “So legends just run through that family like water!”
Some were surprised to find out about the specifics of Janet’s family tree, but others seemed to expect it given how small Hollywood is.
“Not surprising at all. Most ppl don’t realize, getting into the music industry is all about networking and connections,” one pointed out. “Once you’re in, you can put on other talented family members and friends. A lot of celebs are related!”
