Viral Olympic sensation 'Raygun' breaks silence with emotional message

Raygun has stated that she has been devastated by the response to her performance at the Olympic Games this past week after she had become a viral sensation.

Rachael Gunn, 36, scored no points during her three breakdancing performances when representing Australia after she had chosen an eyebrow-raising routine - including hopping like a kangaroo and yawning at her opponents.

Gunn, known as Raygun, had immediately gone viral for her performance , with the vast majority being incredibly confused as to what they had just watched, with her routine being very different to that of her opponents as she went on to finish with no points. After leaving the games, Gunn had been yet to speak publicly with her doing so now for the first time.

In a video on Instagram, Gunn said: "Hi everyone, Raygun here. I just wanna start by thanking all the people who have supported me. I really appreciate the positivity and I am glad I was able to bring some joy into your lives, that is what I had hoped.

"I didn't realise that that would also open the door to to much hate which has frankly been pretty devastating. While I went out there and had fun, I did take it very seriously. I worked my butt off preparing for the Olympics and I gave it my all. Truly.

"I'm honoured to have been a part of the Australian Olympic team and to be part of breaking's Olympic debut. What the other athletes have achieved has just been phenomenal."

Gunn had also touched on her scoring no points in her three performances, suggesting that this was not entirely true... despite the Olympics' official scoring website stating that she did indeed score a zero.

She added: "Bit of a fun fact for you: there are actually no points in breaking. If you want to see how the judges thought I compared to my opponents, you can actually see the comparison percentages across all five criteria on Olympics.com, all the results are there."

Gunn has not yet returned to Australia, spending time on holiday with some family and friends as she asked members of the media for privacy - with them said to be receiving constant messages.

She said: "I'm going to be in Europe for a few weeks, for some pre-planned downtime but I would really like to ask the press to pleae stop harassing my family, my friends, the Australian breaking community and the broader street dance community. Everyone has been through a lot as a result of this, so I'd like to ask for their privacy. I will be happy to answer more questions on my return to Australia."
