Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter Suri Cruise made a bold fashion choice as she was spotted out and about in New York City ahead of her big move .

This week, the famous 18-year-old was spotted listening to music and going for a summertime stroll in Central Park as she showed off her eccentric sense of style. The brunette beauty was seen rocking an oversized cream-colored tee, checkered blue shorts, and mismatched socks as she soaked up the sun before heading off to Pittsburg for her studies this fall.

According to Page Six, Suri is rumored to be attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania this year after a clip of her circulated on social media where she was seen sporting the colleges' merch. And as Suri is taking the next big step in her life, her famous mom Katie has opened up about how she feels about her only daughter flying the nest .

In a rare new interview with Town & Country, the former Dawson's Creek actress opened up about the major milestone in her daughter's life. She told the news outlet: "I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy," and added: "I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that."

And while she is shipping off her only child to school out of state, the 45-year-old actress explained that she is going to have more time to focus on her own creative pursuits including re-tapping into her passion for art and attending dancing classes. She said: "I love a dance studio because every time you enter, you’re starting from the beginning, and that’s a good, meditative way to approach the day."

And while it might take some getting used to being without her only child, Katie joked she has a great community to lean on including her book club. Katie told the news outlet: "The members of my book club are going to get annoyed hearing from me. I’ll be like, ‘Let’s meet once a week.’"
