Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have sparked a media frenzy with the launch of their four-day trip in Colombia , an excursion that's raising eyebrows and questions alike.

Tagged as a 'DIY Royal tour', the couple's itinerary mirrors traditional Royal engagements, featuring visits to charities and pow-wows with top brass. But since the Sussexes bowed out from official Royal duties in 2020, their current non-official representation of the UK has tongues wagging about the true intent behind their quasi-royal escapade.

Vice President Francia Marquez has now illuminated the rationale for extending an invite to the high-profile pair, and it's a revelation that might ruffle feathers back at Buckingham Palace .

On the cusp of greeting Harry and Meghan in Bogota, Vice President Marquez, alongside her spouse Rafael Yerney Pinillo, addressed the press's burning queries regarding the motivation for the invitation.

The VP disclosed: "I saw the Netflix series about their life, their story and that moved me and motivated me to say that this is a woman who deserves to come to our country and tell her story and her exchange will undoubtedly be an empowerment to so many women in the world."

The six-episode Netflix documentary "Harry and Meghan," which premiered in 2022, chronicles the couple's romance and subsequent challenges that led them to renounce their HRH titles and forge a new independent path in California.

Labelled as revealing 'the other side of their high-profile love story,' the series makes several startling claims about the British Royal family. Notably, in episode five, Prince Harry alleges that his brother, Prince William, lost his temper with him during the notorious Sandringham Summit.

At this meeting, Harry says he was presented with five options for his future role within the Royal family. He chose a 'half in, half out' approach, where he and Meghan would maintain their own careers while supporting the Queen, then his grandmother Elizabeth II.

Reflecting on the tense discussions, Harry said: "It became very clear very quickly that goal was not up for discussion or debate. It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me and my father say things that just simply weren't true. And my grandmother, you know, quietly sit there and take it all in."

He added, "But you have to understand that, from the family's perspective, especially from hers, there are ways of doing things and her ultimate, sort of, mission, goal/responsibility is the institution."

Upon their arrival in Colombia, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined VP Marquez and Mr Pinillo for a traditional Colombian treat - coffee, tea, and pan de bono (Colombian Cheese Bread). They exchanged welcome gifts during their brief half-hour stay before moving on to their busy itinerary.

Their agenda includes discussions on cyber-bullying, online digital violence and discrimination, and women's leadership.
