A man has been charged in connection with an attack on his former Alabama beauty queen girlfriend who herself faces charges for plotting to kill her estranged husband.

Dorsey Ryan Love, 35, was arrested on charges of assault-domestic violence-strangulation/suffocation, on July 31 Dothan Police Department reports. His girlfriend Lindsay Shiver claimed he threw her on a bed, tried to choke her, and suffocated her with a pillow in a house in Dothan, Alabama, on July 25.

Details of the accusations were detailed in a protection order request she filed against him on July 29. In the documents, Shiver also claimed that Love abused her during a trip to Florida , in an incident she did not initially report to police.

The document stated that she wrote: “He threatened to kill me.” Previously, Shiver allegedly made a plot to kill her husband Robert Shiver on July 16 2023 in the Bahamas. According to CNN he filed for divorce that April over her alleged “adulterous conduct.”

A report from Law&Crime claimed that Shiver was arrested that August alongside her lover at the time Terrance Bethel and his friend Faron Newbold Jr. Police reported that the plot was uncovered while they were investigating a break-in at a bar where Bethel worked with evidence discovered on his phone, Bahamas Court News reported.

Shiver had allegedly sent Newbold a message alongside photos of her husband, saying, “Kill him,” according to court documents. She reportedly told the police that the suggestion of killing him was “said out of anger and frustration” following an argument.

Her attorney Owen Wells maintained that his client is innocent in December stating: “She continues to face the legal process with complete transparency and honesty. Lindsay is looking forward to getting this ordeal behind her and - most importantly - she is looking forward to being reunited with her young children who have been without their mother for many months.”

Mr Shiver - who works as an insurance executive - survived the murder plot. He briefly played with the Atlanta Falcons and for the Auburn University Football team in the past according to his LinkedIn page.

Shiver was named Miss Houston County in 2005, according to Houston County Pagents Inc under her maiden name Shirley. Shiver was released on $100,000 bail and allowed to return to the U.S . from the Bahamas to live with her parents. She has to wear an ankle monitor, as do her co-defendants who were released on $20,000 bail and have to check in with police three times a week and keep a curfew.
