    DNC hit by bomb threats as cops investigate pipe bombs placed at hotels

    On Tuesday, the Democratic National Convention faced a security alert as authorities in downtown Chicago responded to several bomb threats.

    Multiple hotels in the vicinity of the conventio n received alarming statements, prompting police searches.The threats indicated that pipe bombs had been planted at the Hotel Chicago West Loop, the Hyatt House Chicago and in the University District according to Fox 32 .

    The outlet also said that In the threats had mentioned that the DNC was taking place this week for four days on the city's Near West Side and included "anti-semitic statements." The corresponding threats had officers checking the Nobu Hotel.

    An X formerly Twitter user posted about an box that leaked gas in the airport on August 20. Their tweet read: "Level I Hazmat at O'Hare Airport Terminal 1 for an unattended box that's leaking gas. It seems this was checked baggage that got rejected by TSA and brought back to United." At this time, there is no connection of this situation to the numerous bomb threats.

    This week has seen the city with increased security and tension as Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have turned up to the Chicago to protest the Biden administration support for Israel in their war in Gaza and demand a rapid as well as permanent ceasefire. Thousands of protestors came on Monday near the convention at Union Park and will continue to demonstrate throughout the week.

    At the demonstration, which have been coined “March on the DNC,” protestors can be seen waving Palestinian flags in addition to holding signs condemning Vice President Harris and President Joe Biden, calling an end to U.S aid to Israel, asking for an arm embargo and liberation for Palestine.

    It has been reported that the march has remained largely peaceful . Several arrests did happen when a few protestors separated from the march and pull down parts of the security fencing around the United Center which was were Biden was scheduled to give a speech on Monday night. A third row of fencing has been installed going east on Washington Boulevard in the area

    Chicago is the home to the America's biggest Palestinian community with over 15,000 of Palestinian descent living in the state according to the U.S. Census Bureau. On October 14, a six-year-old Palestine boy Wadea al-Fayoume from Plainfield Township, Illinois was fatally stabbed in his home. His mother was also critically injured in the attack. Authorities said the murder was a hate crime motivated by Islamophobia and in response to the Israel-Hamas war.
