Dallas Cowboys training hotel catches fire ahead of new NFL season

The Dallas Cowboys were unharmed after a fire broke out in a room at their River Ridge Residence Inn HQ ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

The team has stayed at the hotel near their training base in California every year since 2012. Oxnard Fire Department revealed that the incident was contained to one room and that the team suffered no injuries or disruptions to their training camp.

The Cowboys are heading into the 2024 campaign off the back of a disappointing playoff defeat to the Green Bay Packers last season. Dallas could undergo massive squad changes across the next season too, with stars CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott looking for new contracts .

The franchise will either pay out their top stars or look for a major reshuffle. Owner Jerry Jones has attempted to do some firefighting of his own and put out some fires following comments on Lamb's contract a few weeks ago.

"Well, I think I am and when I say that, it doesn't sound too promising," Jones said on Lamb's negotiations. "The facts are that I believe we'll come together. I don't want to speak for him. That's what I'm trying not to do. But we wouldn't have offered him what we've offered him if we didn't want him to be here."

Jones added: "I don't mean that to be insensitive to our fans or to CeeDee, but we're in good shape there and we are having promising talks. You say, 'Well, why do you keep talking? Why don't you do something?'

"Again, as in anything, it takes both of you there at the same time. But I believe it's got the proper amount of everything -- emphasis, importance -- for everybody involved here and we'll see how it goes."

Likewise, with Prescott, Jones is keen for the contract drama to not put a dampener on the Cowboys' start to 2024. Dallas plays the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 8. "One of the things that I'd like for the fans to really understand is that nine times out of 10, these are existing [contracts] that you have in place," Jones continued.

"And you should be able to operate under those but we've gotten it now in the NFL, other teams are dealing with it too, where with time left on the contract you still might have a contract discussion.

"That's what we're doing. But none of us, players or teams, want it to hurt the preparation or the likelihood of playing at your best opening day."
