Jennifer Lopez's divorce date hints she was 'reluctant' and needed 'courage' for Ben Affleck split

The Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck rumors came to reality.

The singer and actress filed legal divorce documents on Tuesday, August 20, in a Los Angeles County Superior Court . She filed pro per, which means she filed by herself and without an attorney. Jennifer listed April 26, 2024, for their separation was, a few months before her and Ben's second wedding anniversary.

According to the divorce experts, many married couples choose significant dates like New Year's Eve to file for divorce since a new year could me a new life. This gives them motivation to "finally take the first steps to ending the marriage."

In Jennifer's case, she could have chosen to file the papers on their second wedding anniversary because she was "uncertain about the decision, or reluctant to move forwards.

Experts said: "The two-year anniversary of their marriage could have been the milestone she was working towards and served as the final push she needed to take the difficult step of filing for divorce."

They continued: "Establishing these types of personal milestones can help people overcome inertia or uncertainty when facing a major life transition like the end of a marriage. The milestone can give them the courage and conviction to follow through on a decision they may have been contemplating for quite some time."

Before filing for divorce, it was speculated that Jennifer and Ben's marriage was headed in a troubled direction. The two lived on separate coasts during the summer. Jennifer celebrated her 55th birthday with family and friends in The Hamptons, with no Ben insight.

Jennifer was then seen visiting Ben and his son, Samuel, in California. The singer also celebrated Ben's birthday and was spotted at his mansion on August 15, despite him not being there for hers. The two rekindled their love in July 2021 after they dated from 2002 and split in 2004.
