'My sister-in-law wore white dress to my wedding – but now I feel sorry for her'

An outraged bride slammed her sister-in-law for wearing a white dress to her wedding - but then she discovered the real reason for her outfit . She explained how she clocked her sister-in-law in a white dress with a black pattern at the bottom, and questioned why she'd try to upstage her on her special day.

Annoyed, she asked around to try to come up with an answer, believing it to be out of character for her. But after discovering why she decided to don such a daring dress, she couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

She said on Reddit : "My sister-in-law wore a white dress with a black pattern at the bottom. If you'd have just seen the dress from the top it was like a wedding dress . I was furious but it turns out her boyfriend broke up with her a couple of days before the wedding and he returned the dress he bought for her to wear."

The unusual situation prompted another woman to share a time when she wore white to a wedding - saying she didn't take the common etiquette rule seriously. She said: "It was a courthouse wedding . We went to hibachi afterwards. I didn’t even realize it until one of my friends pointed it out in the photos later on.

"I was wearing a white dress with pink polka dots. Also, I was 19 and it was my cousin getting married. Now that I am way older, I feel terrible. Also, I found out that she wanted to have a real wedding but her husband said no and that broke my heart."

Another guest shared the 'cringy' mistake she made when ordering a dress for her sister-in-law's big day, saying: "I ordered a solid silver/pale grey dress. I knew of the white rule, but I thought it looked darker on the website than it actually was.

"I still think it would have been fine, as it was clearly grey/silver not white, but after my sister strongly warned me off, I quickly changed my dress plan. I ended up wearing an old burgundy dress and accidentally ended up looking like a bridesmaid (100% innocent). I gave up, put on my partner's jacket and enjoyed the open bar."
