    North Carolina man wins almost $500,000 lottery jackpot one day after buying house

    A man from North Carolina said he plans to use his nearly $500,000 in lotto winnings to make payments on a house he bought one day before the drawing in an incredible stroke of luck.

    Benny Murphy told lottery officials of NC Education Lottery he purchased a new Mebane house 24 hours before the Cash 5 drawing Thursday. "I closed on a house on Wednesday," Murphy said. "They made a joke about lower payments if I won the lottery ." Murphy's luck had earned him about $439,527 from the Cash 5 drawing .

    He purchased the ticket from the Quickmart on U.S. 70 West in Mebane for $1. He is ready to make payments on his car, save for a fishing trip and contribute to his savings account.

    Cash 5 gives players a few options regarding ticket purchase. It's one of six lotto games to allow NC customers to acquire tickets at a retail location or with online play using the lottery 's website and the mobile app. Monday's jackpot has risen to $130,000. "Congratulations. Wow. What a beautiful blessing," one person commented on the NC Education Lottery website. "You deserve it brother. Here's to many many more wins for you.

    Roger Sours, from Tiffin, informed Ohio Lottery authorities that he purchased a ticket at the Pit Stop on N Washington Street for Wednesday's Pick 5 drawing and chose the unique sequence of numbers 1-0-8-2-2.

    "I play two sets of numbers for Pick 5 and this number, the number that hit was actually my license number for my German shepherd that I played. She's no longer with us anymore," he said.

    Sours was shocked to see the lottery results on TV. "I did nothing but sit here. When I have the opportunity, I watch the lotto on TV and just sit here. I felt as though I froze. He remarked, "I just couldn't believe that it hit."

    Sours intends to boost his savings and pay off some debt. On July 4, a lucky Ohio lottery winner who also happened to win the Powerball declared themselves financially independent. A ticket purchased in the Buckeye State, according to the Powerball website, matched all six balls to win the $139.3 million jackpot in Wednesday's drawing. The winner also has access to the $66.5 million cash option.
