Meghan Markle's cruel nickname from Prince Philip that was 'never said to her face'

The late Prince Philip had a rather harsh nickname for Meghan Markle, a royal expert has claimed .

Philip, who died in 2021, was "wary" of the former Suits actress and drew parallels between her and Wallis Simpson, the wife of Prince Edward. Both women were American divorcees when they married into the Royal Family , and while these similarities have been noted before, it's said that Philip explicitly highlighted this comparison with a nickname for Meghan, though he never used it directly with her.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward claims that Philip saw "similarities" between Meghan and Wallis Simpson , the late Duchess of Windsor, and gave her a nickname that linked the two women. She explained: "I think Prince Philip was very canny about people and he didn't always see the bad in them, he tried to see the good in them.

"I think he just couldn't get away from the fact [of the] similarities between Meghan and Harry and Edward and Mrs Simpson. There are so many similarities which is why he used to call her The Duchess of Windsor, I mean not to her face."

Speaking to GB News, Seward added: "We used to call her dow - DoW [the abbreviation for Duchess of Windsor]." In her revealing book, My Mother and I, Seward said: "One of the few wary of succumbing to [Meghan's] charm offensive... was Prince Philip. From the moment he detected her apparent similarity to Wallis, he referred to her as DoW."

Seward also noted that Prince Philip had labeled Meghan as "disruptive" to the royal establishment, whereas the late Queen Elizabeth II remained hopeful, having "high hopes" for Meghan's future.

Since their dramatic exit from Royal life in 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry have settled in California with their children - Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Although Harry has made several return trips to the UK, Meghan has not joined her husband in recent years.

Meghan's visits to the UK have been sparse since their royal departure, attending only major events like Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in 2022. Notably, she was absent from King Charles III's coronation last year, an event Harry attended solo.
