Jennifer Lopez files to drop Ben Affleck's last name as divorce drama drags out

Jennifer Lopez has requested to legally drop Ben Affleck's surname after filing for divorce from the Gone Girl star .

J.Lo, 55, submitted paperwork to the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday to legally end their marriage after just two years. She revealed their official date of separation was April 26, 2024.

In the court documents, the singer ticked a box requesting to have her maiden name restored after her divorce is granted. This will see her go from Jennifer Lynn Affleck back to Jennifer Lynn Lopez.

Lopez filed her divorce papers by herself and without a lawyer on the two-year anniversary of her and Ben's second wedding ceremony. The two tied the knot on July 26, 2022, but celebrated their wedding in Riceboro, Georgia, on August 20, 2022.

The former couple didn't have a prenuptial agreement in place and J.Lo has waved spousal support, according to TMZ . She is also asking the judge to deny Ben spousal support.

It's believed Ben and Jennifer's marital issues started just days after their wedding. Ben was reportedly unhappy with the media attention surrounding their ceremony and a source has claimed communication between the pair became strained during their honeymoon in Lake Como, Italy.

The source claimed: "When they weren't in front of the cameras they would barely speak to each other during what was supposed to be the happiest time of their life." They added: "He sold her on him being a changed man, and that lasted a very short time."

Ben reportedly craved more privacy and found it challenging to deal with his new wife's immense fame. The source further claimed to Page Six : "He doesn't want [the entourage] and all the drama that comes with that in his home."

Another source suggested J.Lo's friends have become "fed up with her antics" as she's now on her fourth divorce. She previously ended her marriages to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd and Marc Anthony.

The source claimed J.Lo's friends find her love life to be "chaotic". They said: "After four failed marriages, her friends feel that she should take a look inside and focus on herself instead of what others want her to be." Speaking to the Daily Mail , the source said J.Lo's pals hope this would help her to "figure out who she is and what she wants from her future".
