Chris Watts blamed his "control freak" wife for the reason he killed her and their two children .

The community was left confused and shocked after discovering that Chris had strangled his pregnant wife , Shanann, and their two daughters – Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3 – in their Colorado home on August 13, 2018, after fooling others into thinking he was a devoted family man. He then disposed of their bodies in oil barrels in a remote desert area.

Chris then claimed he had nothing to do with their disappearance and was on television news outlets begging for them to come home. He is serving five life sentences plus 48 years in prison without the possibility of parole at the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin.

The murdering father called his pregnant wife a "control freak" in recently discovered letters obtained by the New York Post . He also stated that he went to his mistress because she was "everything my wife wasn't like with me."

Chris said in his handwritten notes to Dylan Tallman, a fellow prisoner at Wisconsin's Dodge Correctional Institution, that his marriage was unfulfilling because "she was really busy with her job and everything it required," and that he frequently took care of his girls. The day he killed Shanann was the day she came back from a work trip.

He sought comfort from his mistress, Nichol Kessinger, who he wanted to be with. He met Nichol after he started losing weight in 2017 and started getting attention from women.

The letters read: "'She was just everything my wife wasn't like with me. She was just nice, and not a control freak. We could make decisions together." He continued: "We knew each other for awhile, but we didn’t start messing around until six weeks before. I was not thinking. We worked together, we had chemistry, and I fell into temptation. She was the forbidden fruit."

In a letter that the New York Post saw and was dated March 2020, where Chris wrote a prayer of confession about Nichol blaming her to be "the death of him."

He wrote: "The words of a harlot have brought me low. Her flattering speech was like drops of honey that pierced my heart and soul. Little did I know that all her guests were in the chamber of death.”
