Now that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is 18 she has chosen to ditch her famous father’s last name.

Shiloh recently filed a court document to get rid of her surname, an action that Brad was reportedly blindsided by. The F1 actor wasn’t aware that his daughter was planning to drop his name, so it was surprising to him that she did. Shiloh’s decision didn’t come completely out of nowhere, being that she and Brad have a tumultuous relationship. Shiloh Nouvel Jolie was born on May 27, 2006, in Nambia, and is the first biological child that Brad and Angelina welcomed, following their adoption of Maddox and Zahara. Pax was adopted after Shiloh, and then came the birth of Brad and Angelina’s biological twins, Knox and Vivienne.

In the early years of Shiloh’s life , Brad seemed like the typical girl dad, often pictured holding her close to him amid family outings or while traveling the world.

Brad’s relationship with Shiloh and his other children took a hit when he and Angelina divorced in 2016. They got married in 2014 after being together for nine years. It seemed that after the Hollywood stars split, all of the ex-couple’s children began spending more time with the Lara Croft star.

The strain between Shiloh and Brad could be linked to when the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services investigated the Bullet Train actor in 2016 for child abuse. An investigation ensued after an incident that happened on a plan, which reportedly fueled Brad and Angelina’s divorce.

It was ruled that the movie star didn’t physically harm his children, leading him to have brief custody of his kids until 2021. After that year, the agreement went back to Angelina having full custody, and Brad only getting custodial time with minors. Angelina later claimed that Brad’s aggressive behavior had traumatized her children.

Brad’s alleged aggressive behavior is seemingly substantiated by Shiloh’s reasoning for removing Pitt from her last name.

Shiloh dropping the surname Pitt comes in the midst of what her attorney labeled "painful events" that happened in his client’s life, according to Hello! Courts have approved her name change request, and she now legally goes by Shiloh Jolie.

Since the divorce, Angelina minimized the amount of time her kids spent around Brad as she 'limited involvement' with their father. However, now that Shiloh is 18, she can make her decision about whether or not she wants to interact with her dad. It seems that Shiloh isn’t looking to develop a closer relationship with Brad as of yet.

A source close to the situation claims Shiloh wants to distance herself from the shadow of her super-famous parents so she can chart her own path.
