College Football fans drink Dublin dry as stadium 'runs out of beer in first quarter'

Florida State University fans had taken over Dublin on Saturday for their season opener against Georgia Tech with well over 45,000 fans in the Aviva Stadium - and drinking so much that they had run out of beer.

An incredible amount of fans had made the 8,000-mile round trip to the Irish capital to see the Seminoles open their season, shockingly losing to Georgia Tech despite being a 11-point favorite, coming in off the back of an undefeated season.

But although the result did not go their way, FSU fans certainly enjoyed themselves in Ireland, with the stadium being dominated by its fans while ordering so much beer that the stadium had ran out by the end of the first quarter.

Numerous tweets from fans at the game suggested that the Florida State fans drank their area of stadium dry. One fan tweeted: "Holy c---... the stadium ran out of beer." As another said: "The Noles have come to Ireland and drank them dry!" Another said: "FSU drake them out of everything but Guinness before halftime!"

However, it appears that many FSU fans had not been Guinness fans, with many suggesting that they had plenty of it left, but had ran out of beer.

Later in the game, Sirius XM College Football host Barrett Sallee confirmed that it had not been the case just a few minutes later, with the stadium quickly getting more beers to the area which had run out.

Mirror Sports US reporter Joseph McBride had been in Dublin for the weekend, stating that he'd seen well over 25,000 Florida State fans over the past few days - with 20,000 further expected to have made the trip.

It had been a party atmosphere in the city throughout the weekend, with ESPN personality Pat McAfee seen drinking in bars with former WWE champion Sheamus.

But while they arrived excited for the weekend, FSU fans will have left feeling that their season might be over before it's begun - losing to Georgia Tech in a shock upset.

The win marked Tech's first win over a top-10 opponent since 2015 in a statement victory, with FSU seeing their new quarterback DJ Uiagalelei mightily struggle with fans already asking him to benched.

In the new college football playoff format, teams have further room to make mistakes and drop games, but FSU will now look to run the table if they are to get a top 10 seed.
