Ted Lasso set for unexpected season four return after fans thought show was dead

The beloved Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso is gearing up for a surprise season four comeback.

Initially concluding after its third season in 2023, Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the show, is now mulling over a fourth installment. The studio has renewed contracts for Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift, all original cast members under UK's Equity union.

The next step involves reaching out to SAG-AFTRA talents, including the show's co-creators and executive producers Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, as well as Juno Temple and more.

Deadline has also reported that Phil Dunster's return as Jamie Tartt is up in the air due to his commitments to Prime Video's 'The Devil's Hour' and Apple's own 'Surface'. Should the actors' contract talks go smoothly, there are plans to set up a writers' room, potentially eyeing an early 2025 production start.

Fans were shocked over the renewal, considering there has been radio silence on the show's future for the past year.

"Fourth season of Ted Lasso is happening, this is why you never abandon your dreams," one wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT!!" Another exclaimed.

Additionally, many felt that the way season three ended indicated a definitive conclusion for the series as a whole.

"They really seemed adamant that the show was done, but I guess the popularity brought it back," one tweeted. "With how season 3 felt like a end, i thought it'll be the last I see of them. But how 'bout that indeed," another penned.

Bill Lawrence, one of the co-creators, has made it clear that any new 'Ted Lasso' episodes hinge on Jason Sudeikis' involvement.

Speaking to Collider, he said: "Whatever Jason feels like doing and whatever his decision is, we're all down with it. Not only is he the star, he's the head writer, and he's also the dude whose life just has to be completely overhauled and moved to a foreign country with young children."

"It's a big deal. So, as a fan, if someone's like, 'Oh, it's gonna happen again,' I'll go nuts. As a partner, I'm down for whatever he wants to do."
