Rory McIlroy's struggles with his driver continued when it broke into two pieces as he tried to retrieve his tee shot peg during the final round of the BMW Championship.

The unexpected break occurred on the par-4 9th hole at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado, after a wayward tee shot sent his ball bouncing off the rocky banks and into the water hazard. This forced him to remove his shoes and socks to attempt the shot, leaving commentators stunned by the surprisingly clean lie provided by the course.

Standing in the flowing stream with his pant legs rolled up, McIlroy prepared to take the shot. With one foot on a rock and the other in the creek, he faced a downhill shot against an upward wind.

He delivered a laser-accurate shot onto the green, but as he bent over to collect his tee shot peg, the tension on his golf club was so great that it snapped in half at the end of the shaft.

The club head flew into the air, narrowly missing McIlroy and his caddy, who quickly jumped aside. After this incident, he put his Nike shoes and socks back on and managed to make par on his last shot of the front nine.

The video of the incident sparked a debate among golf enthusiasts online, with one fan declaring, "Intentional," a comment that garnered 173 likes. Another spectator was skeptical, pondering if the broken driver was the same one McIlroy had previously tossed into the lake.

Just yesterday, on the 17th hole, McIlroy's frustration with his driver peaked as he deliberately chucked it into the water. However, he is said to have retrieved the club and continued to use it for the remainder of the day.

A different fan commented, "Yes, that was intentionally done. It's also very dangerous - at a course where a dude did this same thing , skin deep gouge wrist to elbow , extremely lucky and very nasty."

Some fans also took aim at TaylorMade Stealth drivers, criticizing the carbon composite material used in the latest models for reducing the clubs' sturdiness. Despite this, the change was intended to enhance ball speed and provide a larger face for better contact between the club head and the ball.

TaylorMade's official website states that customers can bring their clubs to any TaylorMade retailer for repair or replacement services, with a two-year warranty offered upon purchase.

As the tournament neared its end, McIlroy was no longer in the running for victory, tying for 12th place with just one hole left. Meanwhile, American golfer Keegan Bradley was leading the pack with a score of -13, maintaining a two-stroke lead over Sam Burns, who finished with a 277.
