In a heinous admission to her parents , a Nebraska teenager said she killed her newborn baby, telling them that the baby " was dead " and that "she killed it ," according to court documents.

The 17-year-old was charged as an adult in the heinous case that saw her newborn son's throat cut and him stabbed to death before he was placed inside a dog food bag under clothes in a bedroom closet at the family's home. Chloe Coplen-Anderson now faces up to life in prison for the murder after pleading no contest to second-degree murder as part of a plea agreement on Tuesday.

Prosecutors reportedly aren't seeking the full penalty for her, however. Nevertheless, Coplen-Anderson faces at least 20 years in prison for the murder, meaning she won't get out until at least her late 30s.

Coplen-Anderson's sentencing is slated to occur on Oct. 15, the Star-Herald reported. Details first emerged about the gruesome murder last year, when Coplen-Anderson was just 16.

Initially, Coplen-Anderson was charged with first-degree murder, but the aforementioned plea agreement saw her charges downgraded to second-degree murder. The difference, in Nebraska, is that first-degree murder is premeditated, while second-degree murder is still the intentional death of a person but without the premeditation.

Sheridan County Attorney Jamian Simmons told Law&Crime that a felony count of child abuse with a deadly weapon — in this case, a knife — was dropped against Coplen-Anderson, too, as part of the plea agreement.

The Gordon police responded to the home of the teen's parents on Nov. 6, 2023, and found what was described by Law&Crime as a "horrific, blood-covered scene" in the girl's bedroom. Inside the closet, covered with clothes, was an empty plastic dog food bag in a trash can that contained the newborn's desecrated remains. The defendant had reportedly been out at a store shortly after the murder took place.

Coplen-Anderson's father reportedly believed the newborn had been a stillborn child. But her mother reportedly shouted to a responding officer during the initial police all that she believed Coplen-Anderson had "hurt him," referring to the baby, and that "you can see the marks."

It wasn't clear at that time whether the baby's body was discovered yet. When it was, the boy was found with multiple stab wounds and a cut throat. Coplen-Anderson's parents reportedly noticed something wrong earlier in the day when their daughter grabbed a knife from a drawer in the kitchen.

After Coplen-Anderson got back from the store, her mother reportedly confronted her about the knife, and Coplen-Anderson admitted that the baby "was dead" and that "she killed it," the mother told the police, according to the Star-Herald. The sentencing hearing in Coplen-Anderson's case will determine her fate in October.

She is not evil , postpartum is a serious problem and at 17 she should’ve been monitored with the child at all times until they seen she had it.. Ain’t no way a regular 17 year old and care for a child alone.. Her parents didn’t even check on the baby knowing she had went to the store without the baby and knew she had a knife and didn’t see her leave with it but didn’t go in the room to see what she did with it or the baby.. Lock they ass up to…
