General Hospital fans point out major plot-hole as iconic character makes their return to show

General Hospital fans brought up a major plot-hole.

On Monday’s episode, Portia and another doctor explained to Laura and Elizabeth what is currently wrong with Lulu as her condition worsens as she is still in a coma. They diagnosed her with medical cirrhosis which is a build up of scar tissue in the liver . The medical cirrhosis is the reason her liver is failing, which is due to the medication she’s been taking for the last four years she’s been in her coma.

Lulu (last portrayed by Emme Rylan) has been in a coma after an explosion in 2020 and has been in one ever since. The ABC soap appears to be setting up her return and many GH fans believe Lucky’s return might play a role in that because Lulu is in need of a transplant. But fans have noticed a discrepancy with that potential storyline.

On fan said X formerly Twitter: “If they write that lucky as a match as if he didn't compromise his body that would erase him being a recovering drug addict & whitewash his character wouldn't shock me he is a spencer.” A second fan: “I'm waiting to see what actually happens before I blow my top. If they rewrite history and forget that Lucky was NOT a match to LuLu Im going to be LIVID!!!!!!”

Another fan argued that this wouldn’t be a plot-hole: "I may be wrong but I don’t believe bone marrow donation is the same as liver so Lucky could still be a match for Lulu.” A fan agreed but mentioned Lucky’s addiction past being a potential barrier, saying: “You're not wrong. Liver donation requires a blood type match. Bone marrow donation requires an HLA (tissue match). The only thing that could stop Lucky donating is his substance abuse history.”

Near the end of the episode Laura told Dante she would let him know if Nikolas (who is in prison) was a match for a liver transplant for Lulu. He once was a match for her previously for a bone-marrow transplant when she was little and suffered from aplastic anemia while Lucky was not. Laura has mentioned prior to Dante that their best bet for a match is a close family member. Nikolas and Lucky are Lulu's brothers.

General Hospital fans will have to wait to see if their speculations of Lucky coming back will tie in with Lulu's transplant storyline or if Nikolas will be a match once more. GH comes on weekdays on ABC at 3 pm EST.
