Jerry Jones will be Cowboys GM for 'as long as he's alive' after CeeDee Lamb move

Longtime Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has what he describes as "an ordinate amount of confidence."

Maybe that's what three Super Bowls and 35 years in charge will do. Cowboys writer Clarence Hill sat down with the always-turgid owner in an expletive interview for alldlls.com , and Jones looked to dispel any rumors over whether or not he knows what he's doing.

"I’ve done it all. So I have an ordinate amount of confidence that ----, if anybody can figure out how to get this ---- done, I can figure out how to get it done," Jones said. “I’ve been there every which way from Sunday, and have I busted my --- a bunch."

Unlike most owners his age, the 82-year-old Jones doesn't have some young Ivy League data analytics guru running the front. He told Hill that he will remain the General Manager for the team as long as he's alive.

He added: "The reason I don’t let somebody else be the GM is because I don’t have anybody that I will let do it to actually do it right. And they’re gonna have to come to me and because I know where it is that you’re going to pay for it."

Jones also trusts his children with prominent positions within the organization. His son Stephen is the most involved: he's the team's Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President, and Director of Player Personnel.

Jones caught some slack this offseason for what looked to be the apparent mishandling of the contract situations for two of his star players: Ceedee Lamb and Dak Prescott. Lamb set the team record for receiving yards last year and was slated to play out the 2024 season on his fifth-year rookie option before opting to miss Dallas's training camp .

Jones seemed to be losing control of the situation, saying on Sunday: "I don’t have any updates, but we are near the season starting."

Then a day later, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Lamb was signing a mammoth four-year, $136 million contract with the team - the second-highest by a non-quarterback in NFL history. Maybe Jones still has an ace or two up his sleeve.

Jones continued: "There’s nobody living that’s out cutting and shooting that can’t give you a bunch of times they busted their ---. So hell no, there’s nobody that could ------- come in here and do all the contracts... and be a GM any better than I can."

"Plus, I’m where the buck stops. When it ----- up, I got to cover it. And so there you can’t give anybody enough. Can’t give. There’s nobody can do it."
