The beloved storybook character Pinocchio is set for a chilling transformation that will have viewers freaked out.

Bloody Disgusting unveiled a poster for the upcoming film, Pinocchio: Unstrung , which shows the wooden puppet leaving a path of destruction behind him. A bloodied hand impaled with a knife and Pinocchio's severed strings are seen in the aftermath. The original Disney Pinocchio is about a puppet whose nose grows whenever he lies.

The horror movie's tagline ominously states: "There's nothing holding him back" Director Rhy Frake-Waterfield spoke to Bloody Disgusting about the project, saying, "The film will embrace practical effects at every opportunity, ranging from the doll itself to the title card of the film."

"With a budget significantly larger than my previous film, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, I'm aiming to make this the definitive Pinocchio horror film and my best movie to date," he added. The eerie film is slated to start shooting in October, with a release planned for next year.

Frake-Waterfield also assured that the cast would be announced "shortly". IGN reported that Todd Masters, a makeup effects veteran known for his work on Child's Play and Underworld Awakening, has joined the team to design the titular doll.

The Twisted Childhood Universe, or Poohniverse, was developed by Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios. Alongside Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey and its sequel, another cherished Disney character is reportedly being reimagined for the horror franchise.

Bambi: The Reckoning is a chilling tale that follows Xana and her son who become embroiled in a car crash. They find themselves being pursued by Bambi, described by IGN as a "vicious killing machine". This upcoming British horror film is still awaiting its release. The movie is directed by Dan Allen, penned by Rhy Warrington, and produced by Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Scott Jeffrey. It's set to hit the screens in 2025.

Online buzz suggests that a third installment of Blood and Honey is in the pipeline, along with Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble. Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare is also slated to join the TCU in 2024. Each film in the TCU series offers a spine-chilling reinterpretation of various fairy tale characters that have recently entered the public domain.
