Netflix fans were left "flabbergasted" over newly-released true crime series as they blast the "disgusting" trailer for the show.

This week users took to Reddit as they shared their thoughts on the new teaser that just dropped for the upcoming series MONSTERS: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, made by the same creators of the show Dahmer. The series follows the story of real-life brothers Lyle and Eric Menendez. who killed their parents after claiming they were subjected to years of sexual abuse at the hands of their father, José Menendez.

During their 1993 trial for the murder of their parents, the Menendez brothers claimed they shot José and Kitty Menendez in self-defense after years of suffering abuse. As the trailer closes, the brothers are seen covered in blood after killing their parents as they hug one another shirtless as one of the brothers says: "It's just us now, we're on our own."

And as the true crime story is transported to the small screen, some viewers were left uneasy by the first teaser as they felt like the trailer was insinuating there was an incestuous relationship between the brothers. Many were outraged by this decision as it was inaccurate to the real-life people who allegedly suffered tragedy and abuse.

Under a Reddit thread, one fan fumed: "Why aren’t ya’ll talking about how he’s implying the brothers were incestuous with each other? Excuse my language but that’s f-----g disgusting I am actually flabbergasted by that I shouldn’t be cause of the joke he made before but I thought with him portraying the abuse and taking it from their perspective he wouldn’t go along with something like that but it seems from that shot that he is I have no more words."

While another added: "why they had to be naked in that shot? I genuinely feared in that moment they were gonna make it about incest." And a third wrote: "This is a disgrace to the Brothers. When are people going to stop profiting off their story."

Others defended the choice, believing that the brothers were captured shirtless as a symbolic moment or simply a case of them simply removing their clothes after their earlier outfits were covered in blood. One fan wrote: "The shirtlessness is pretty obviously symbolic of vulnerability IMO - in the scene with their parents they’re in suits and ties but when they get on their own (after the murder) they are physically and emotionally stripped down - the facade is gone. That and obviously Ryan Murphy likes a shirtless man but who really cares lmao. It’s for aesthetics."
