Another true crime series about the crimes of Lyle and Erik Menendez will be dropping next month.

The upcoming Netflix show Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is a dramatization of the real-life story of infamous murderers Lyle and Erik Menendez. Actors Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch will portray Lyle Menendez and Erik Menendez respectively. The two siblings are typically referred to as the 'Menendez brothers,' which began at the time of their real-life criminal trials between 1994 and 1996.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will take a look at the events of August 20, 1989, and the lead up to the brutal murders of Kitty and Jose. The couple were shot multiple times and killed by their sons, who were 18 and 21 at the time.

Netflix's latest upcoming true crime drama, is being masterminded by the show-runners of the hit 2022 Jeffrey Dahmer series. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is going to premiere late next month on September 19.

The Menedez brothers are notoriously known for killing their parents José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez.

In 1989, police found their wealthy parents dead in their home in Beverly Hills, California. Jose was shot at close range with a shotgun six times, and Kitty was also shot, but ten times. When authorities arrived on the scene, both Lyle and Erik were present.

At the time the Menendez brothers told the responding police officers that the slaying of their parents happened when they were at a movie and festival. Eventually, they ended up owning up to the murders.

Lyle and Erik alleged that their violent act against their parents was a response to years of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse. Prosecutors countered their claim, arguing that they murdered their parents to inherit the multi-million dollar family fortune. Lyle and Erik were convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, and each received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

As of February 2018, the brothers are locked up in Mule Creek State Prison's Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California. Lyle is now 56 years old and younger brother Eric is 53. Just because they’re incarcerated, doesn’t mean they haven’t been able to have some semblance of a normal life.

Both Lyle and Erik experienced romances despite being behind bars. In 1996, Lyle married model Anna Eriksson. They divorced in 2001 after Anna found out about Lyle’s alleged infidelity.
