R&B singer Tyrese Gibson recently recalled a time during his childhood when he had used his acting chops to secure additional income to help with family expenses.

The Fast & Furious star laid it all out on the table during a sit-down he had with Gillie Da King on Gillie’s podcast Million Dollaz Worth of Game. In the new interview, Tyrese confessed that his mother Priscilla Murray Gibson made him pretend to have a mental disability when he was around 8. Why? So they would receive a bigger social security payout. More specifically, Tyrese claimed that Priscilla made him “play r- - - ed” so their family would qualify to be given $762 from the government so his hard-working mom could be able to support their family.

The Sweet Lady crooner joked that the lie he told on behalf of his mom was his “first acting gig.”

Gillie’s co-host Wallo teased that Priscilla was Tyrese’s “first director.” Tyrese’s revelation has some giving him props for keeping it real while others were offended by his usage of “the R-word in 2024. There were also a segment of his supporters who didn’t necessarily think Tyrese’s admission was a joking matter as they expressed their fearfulness of him possibly facing ramifications for the deed.

Tyrese dind’t seem to be worried about potential legal action being taken against him or his mom since the incident was years ago, and his mom is no longer living.

"You can't arrest my mom, she's gone, government,” he said with conviction during his conversation with Gillie and Wallo.

Throughout the interview, the Baby Boy star complimented the strength and resilience of his mother, who did her best to support him and siblings as a single parent.

His mom died in February 2022 following her battle with COVID-19 and pneumonia. Priscilla was in a coma before she died. Tyrese dubbed her death the “saddest moment of [his] life." In the wake of his mom’s death he took to Instagram to share the news, and memorialize her.

"We as a family are broken and just can’t believe this……. May the lord Jesus Christ honor your walk with him and embrace you into the heavens,” he wrote on the special social media post at the time.
