Reason Mariah Carey refused to speak to her sister despite being told she was dying 'a month ago'

Mariah Carey was warned her sister was dying but "never tried to contact" her, according to a source .

The singer is currently mourning the deaths of both her mom Patricia and sister Alison after they died within hours of each other. Mariah had a complicated relationship with her family members and reportedly never reached out to Alison despite being told she was dying a month ago.

Alison was placed on at-home hospice care just three weeks ago due to internal organ issues. "A phone call or, better still, a video call would have meant so much to Alison. But it never came," Alison's close friend David Baker claimed.

David said Alison was "unhappy" to have lost contact with her sister. "She talked about it frequently. She wondered if Mariah or any of her relatives would come to her funeral," he said.

Speaking to The US Sun , David added: "I am told that a memorial service is planned for a future date, but nothing now." One source has suggested a reason as to why Mariah was estranged from her sister.

They claimed an alleged drug addiction drove a wedge between the pair. Alison struggled with addiction issues for years and Mariah reportedly tried to support her both emotionally and financially.

However, a source told TMZ Mariah "ultimately decided she needed to show Alison some tough love and not act as an enabler". As a result, the singer cut her sister off and put up a wall between them. Alison did attempt to turn her life around and took part in a methadone program, managing to get herself clean.

Mariah is believed to have spent the last few weeks by her mom's side. The We Belong Together hitmaker announced the deaths of her mom and sister over the weekend.

In a statement shared with People magazine, Mariah said: "My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."

No other details have been given. Alison and Patricia's causes of death are still yet to be revealed.
