Prince Harry reveals unexpected travel plans - but Meghan Markle won't be joining him

Prince Harry has announced he will be visiting New York after celebrating his 40th birthday.

The Duke of Sussex is turning 40 on September 15 and will follow the milestone occasion with a trip to the Big Apple to take part in the UN General Assembly High-level Week and Climate Week. The event takes place from September 22 until September 29.

It's believed Meghan Markle won't be joining her husband for the trip. A spokesperson for Harry confirmed his New York visit, saying he "will be in town to advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives."

The statement continued: "He will participate in engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst. In addition, he will be furthering the work of The Archewell Foundation, the nonprofit organization he co-founded with his wife Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.

"More details will be shared as we approach the week of events." It's not yet known when Harry will be arriving in New York, but he could be set for an awkward run-in with his estranged brother Prince William.

The Prince of Wales is likely to be in the city for the Earthshot Prize Innovation summit, which takes place on September 24. The summit will take place at The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.

William started the Earthshot Prize back in 2020, with the aim of encouraging impactful and sustainable solutions to some of the planet's most pressing environmental issues. The Prince traveled to New York for the summit last year, though Kensington Palace has yet to reveal his plans for this year's event.

Harry and William have grown apart and it's now been two years since the feuding brothers last spoke at Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022. Despite the tension, Harry has been open about his wish to reunite with the Royal Family.

Speaking on Good Morning America back in February, Harry explained: "My family and my life in California is as it is. I have got other trips planned. That would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so you know, I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can."

He also said he hopes King Charles' recent cancer diagnosis can bring the family back together. "Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together," he said.
