An irate Walmart shopper, Mitch Hastings, has declared he'll never set foot in the store again after expressing his disdain for their latest policy on social media.

After an exasperating experience with self-checkouts where he spent half an hour tackling a machine that errored with every other item , Mitch expressed on Facebook: "This will be my last Walmart trip. Apparently, weekday mornings are now down to self-checkout only. No cashier working. So I just spent 30 mins checking out $400 of groceries with the machin e showing error every other item while an associate stood behind me to scan in every time."

He further bemoaned the inconvenience of having to manage his groceries, sharing that he had to request an employee to guard his cart while he fetched another to carry his bags. Furthering his discontent was the exit process, grumbling about having to show his receipt: "Had to ask her to watch my cart so I could go to the front of the store to get an empty cart to put my bags in. Then on the way out someone sitting at the entrance tried to stop me to see my receipt, 'no thanks' and kept walking."

Mitch's rant didn't end there. He felt utterly mocked by what he described as a humiliating shopping ordeal, summing up his feelings by stating: "At this point, they are just mocking us as consumers."

This transition to self-service checkouts is part of a larger trend among retailers aiming to expedite checkout times, despite customers like Mitch feeling left in the lurch, reports the Irish Star .

Yet, not everyone is impressed; some shoppers argue that the revamped checking-out approach actually adds more hassle and complexity to their store visits. Vocal users commented on the updates vividly.

A disgruntled customer expressed: "This is why I don't go to Walmart anymore, especially getting groceries," and another chimed in with "I haven't shopped at Walmart since 2019."

A third individual recounted their personal anecdote: "I used to do all my shopping at Walmart with all 4 kids. The self-checkout got to be way too much for me."

Furthermore, patrons of Walmart have been airing their displeasure over a new policy being tested at certain checkouts that limits purchases to 15 items in an effort to deter theft, drawing parallels with competitor Target's rule of a 10-item limit.

In addition, there has been backlash regarding mandatory receipt inspections intended to thwart stealing, only to be met with skepticism from customers like one who observed: "All they do is take your receipt and mark it with a sharpie. They don't check your bags to make sure it matches your purchases, so it is absolutely no deterrent or solution to shoplifting."

Another perplexed shopper inquired: "Why not just make self-checkout maybe 35 items or less? " A different customer vowed, "I spend $500.00 plus per month at Walmart, but not anymore."

Further confusion and frustration arose as another individual lamented over the store's changes: "What sense does it make to change the self-checkout lanes to 15 items or less BUT then only have 2-3 registers open? ! MAKE IT MAKE SENSE."
