Mariah Carey's last contact with sister revealed as they became estranged before tragic death

Mariah Carey was not close with her sister and the pair remained estranged right up until Alison's death.

Alison’s friend David Baker has revealed Mariah hadn't seen her sister since "either 1994 or 2002" . Despite their tense relationship, it's believed Alison was desperate to reunite with Mariah.

She was said to have been "hurt" by the way she had been treated by her family, but still wanted nothing more than a final conversation with Mariah before she died. David said: "A phone call or, better still, a video call would have meant so much to Alison. But it never came."

Alison was placed on at-home hospice care at her apartment in Coxsackie, New York, just three weeks before her death due to internal organ issues. She sadly died on the same day as her mom Patricia.

Speaking to People Magazine , David said: "We saw it coming, but it’s still a shock. [Alison] got ill fairly quickly and a month later, she’s gone." David said Alison was unaware of her mom's death before her own passing.

Mariah had a complicated relationship with her sister ever since they were children. Alison had preferred to stay out of the limelight, but made headlines in 2021 when she attempted to sue Mariah over claims made in her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

Alison said the claims were "vindictive" and caused her "immense emotional distress". In the book, Mariah alleged that Alison "gave her Valium, tried to pimp her out and threw a cup of boiling hot tea on her causing third-degree burns" when she was just 12 years old.

Mariah also claimed Alison offered her cocaine as a child and said she "would barter her body for money or drugs". Alison, however, disputed the allegations and said Mariah hadn't provided any evidence to support the claims.

However, the case didn't make it to a courtroom. The proceedings ground to a halt after Mariah demanded a formal complaint to address, according to In Touch Weekly . The court records, which were obtained by the publication, show there was no movement in the case since Mariah's request.

The singer announced the deaths of her mom and sister in a heartbreaking statement. Speaking to People magazine , she said: "My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."
