Angelina Jolie looked incredible as she arrived at the Venice Film Festival , where special measures have been taken to make sure she won't have an awkward run-in with Brad Pitt.

The 49-year-old actress arrived at the Hotel Excelsior by boat for the festival on Thursday ahead of the premiere for her new film Maria. Angelina looked stunning wearing a brown gown which featured detailed cross stitching in the shape of a diamond across her waist.

She completed her look with matching heels and a pair of sunglasses. Angelina's appearance at the festival comes after a source revealed the Venice Film Festival programmers have taken extra precaution to keep her apart from her ex-husband .

Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera has revealed the festival took special care to make sure Angelina and Brad's films don't overlap on the schedule. "Angelina will be on the first day, on Thursday, and she will leave right after with [Maria director] Pablo Larraín," he explained.

Angelina and Pablo will then make their way to the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado. Speaking to Vanity Fair , Alberto added: "Brad will arrive only on Saturday, to Venice. There is no way that they can cross each other at the Lido."

A source has said the decision to space out the films was made by the festival and was not requested by the warring exes. "Neither asked for that, they were wise enough to realize," they told Page Six .

Angelina will be attending the premiere of her new film Maria this evening. The movie is an upcoming biographical drama film about opera singer Maria Calla.

The film has been directed by Pablo Larraín and produced by Fremantle. Angelina stars in the main role while Valeria Golino plays her sister Yakinthi, and Haluk Bilginer as Aristotle Onassis.

Speaking about the movie, Angelina said: "I take very seriously the responsibility to Maria's life and legacy. I will give all I can to meet the challenge." She then went on to speak about the film's director, Pablo, saying: "To be allowed the chance to tell more of Maria's story with him, and with a script by Steven Knight, is a dream."

Brad Pitt's new film Wolfs will premiere tomorrow. The movie co-stars George Clooney and follows the story of a man hired to cover up a high-profile crime.
