X users have claimed they are unable to get on the app , with thousands of people claiming it is down.

Thousands of users in the US and in the UK have reported issues accessing their accounts . The popular social network, still commonly referred to by its previous name, Twitter , encountered issues at around 3pm ET, causing huge problems in the US and in the UK.

People claimed they cannot access the For You page, view comments, or see posts on other pages. Down For Everyone or Just Me said: "Yes, we are detecting problems with Twitter that began 28 minutes ago. The last outage detected for Twitter was on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 with a duration of about 1 hour."

One user said: " I know it’s dumb to tweet this but is Twitter down?" Another added: " When Twitter is down, where do you go to find out if Twitter is down?"

Another said: "Me refreshing my feed every 5 seconds to see if it’s working or it’s still down."

Down detector said the problems started at around 3.30pm. Within just five minutes, reports of issues had reached over 6,000. By 15 minutes this rose to 17,000. It is unknown what caused the problems, or how long they will continue for.

The majority of reports related to the app, with users saying it was struggling to load posts and content. One person complained: "Still cannot access account. So not getting my moneys worth with both my premium subscription and accounts i subscribe to this is about a week now."

Some users who were still able to access X took to the app to make jokes that Brazil could be behind the outage. The issues come after Brazil's top court has threated to ban X unless owner Elon Musk gets a legal representative for the platform in the country within 24 hours.

In an order made public on Wednesday, Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes said that failure to appoint a legal representative could result in the “suspension of the social network’s activities”.

De Moraes has accused Musk of waging a “disinformation campaign” and has ordered the suspension of more than 100 X accounts in recent years. Meanwhile Musk has accused De Moraes of stifling freedom of speech. Earlier this month, X shut down its operations in Brazil.
