'My friend named her children after Jurassic Park – I feel sorry for them every day'

While some parents pass baby names down through the generations , others turn to their favorite books, television shows, and movies for inspiration.

That's exactly the approach one woman took to naming her son after spending months struggling to decide on a moniker – but she landed on a rather unusual choice.

Sharing her naming journey, her friend said on Reddit : "I know this lady and her and her kids are the sweetest, but she didn't know what to name the oldest and she and her husband were watching Jurassic Park so they decided to name him with a dino theme."

With this, the couple decided to name their firstborn son Trexton inspired by a T-Rex. She added: "Her daughter has a relatively normal name but then she named her youngest boy Roarex to continue the theme." While most users shared their shock over the moniker, others brainstormed dinosaur-inspired names that they believed would have been more appropriate.

One user said: "Rory’s a name. Why wasn’t Rory good enough? Another user added: "Even just Juras would've been better." A third user said: "Why can’t they use their silly names for the middle name? Ugh." One more user added: "Roarex sounds like either a Pokémon or a creature from a Pokémon-like work." A final user said: "Could've just named him Rex..."

It comes after a mom admitted to naming her son after a 2000s TV show character who she developed a crush on. She said on Reddit : "In the early 2000s I watched a show and one of the characters was named Sawyer. Yes, I thought the character was hot. After that, I started to fall in love with the name independently of anything. I just think it's a really beautiful name .

"After we found out it was a boy, we started to seriously discuss baby names. My husband proposed a bunch that I didn't really like, and I also put out several names that he didn't want. Eventually, I put Sawyer out there as a name. To my surprise, my husband said that he actually really liked that name and we ended up choosing it."

The couple ended up naming their son Sawyer – with her husband, 35, only questioning where the name came from months after his birth. Without thinking much about it, she casually admitted to seeking inspiration from the TV character James "Sawyer" Ford, played by Josh Holloway in Lost. But with that, her husband 'blew up' at her, claiming it's "weird" to name a child after a TV heartthrob.

She added: "Sawyer is a normal name and it's not like he'll be bullied for it. I also said that I'm clearly not obsessed with the show or the character. I've watched the show a total of twice in my life and that's it. I also said that I didn't lie at all. When he asked me, I told him. We've come to an impasse over this. I think he's being ridiculous and jealous of a fictional character, and he thinks he's going to have to reconsider the name."
