Amazon Prime 's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has returned for it's second run, and fans are ripping into the "boring" show.

The first three episodes of season two was released by the streaming service all at once, while the remaining six episodes will come out weekly. For fans needing a reminder, season one ended with army of Númenóreans failed to stop the orc-father Adar (Sam Hazeldine) from creating the realm of Mordor. Fierce elven warrior (Morfydd Clark) realized that Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) was not the the rightful King of the Southlands but her enemy Sauron.

As viewers enter Middle-earth once again for the new season , the premiere episode did not necessarily pick up where the series left off by the end of season one at least not right away. For example there was a glimpse of an unseen backstory that provided insight into season one with Sauron. His initial attempt to take power after the fall of Morgoth (Jack Lowden) was exhibited.

At the time of this article being published, season two is certified 92% Fresh by 63 critic review and has a full Popcornmeter audience score of 65% of 500+ reviews which is good in terms of the review website. Season one had a 83% with 491 critic reviews and basically a Rotten Popcornmeter audience score with 25,000+ ratings.

As rating are still coming in from both critic and fans alike, fans have made their feelings clear about the current season. The bleak feeling some had about season one has lingered and they still seem to not like show. One fan on X formerly Twitter wrote: "I had no idea that it could be worse than season 1. Kudos to them!" A second fan wrote: "Some people like #TheRingsofPower , some people don't like it. Me? I believe the show should be burned at a stake while everyone dances around chanting in Elvish"

Another journalist posted their Variety review which slammed the show: "my patience for THE RINGS OF POWER has long since run out. can we finally admit this show is a boring, lifeless slog?" A fourth fan lamented the lack of faithfulness to the source material by J.R.R Tolkien : "I really genuinely wish that Rings Of Power was a good show and a faithful story of Middle-earth because I'd love a big-budget Tolkien series. But even one scene in and I'm just baffled by the choices."

Some reviews were positive as some people were enjoying the season. One fan wrote: "So far#RingsOfPower season 2 is very good." A second one wrote: "Admittedly this season is already much better written and they dropped the elf/human subplot that just dragged the story down." Another said: "I had fun watching the first 3 episodes of Rings of Power. Had some silly moments but it's pretty good so far."

While not all the negative reviews are maliciously intended, some are and they don't operate in good faith. The show got review-bombed with voices spewing racist and misogyny in 2022 when the first season aired. Amazon ended up disabling their reviews for the show and The Rings of Power put out a statement condemning the vitriol, abuse as well as harassment their cast members of colors were subjected to and stood in solidarity with the cast.

"Tolkien created a world which, by definition, is multi-cultural," parts of the statement read. "A world in which free peoples from, different races and cultures join together, in fellowship, to defeat the forces of evil. ‘Rings of Power’ reflects that. Our world has never been all white, fantasy has never been all white, Middle-earth is not all white."
