Prince William felt 'betrayed' by Meghan Markle and had doubts about her 'hidden agenda'

Prince Harry and Prince William have been feuding for years , with the pair growing apart after Meghan Markle joined the Royal Family.

The brothers' feud appears to be far from over , and a new book about their estrangement has suggested William harbored doubts about Meghan from the outset. Battle of the Brothers, written by Robert Lacey, has explored the possible reason for William and Harry's estrangement .

According to Lacey, William suspected Meghan had an "agenda", and he had expressed his concerns to Harry before the couple got engaged . The situation escalated following Meghan and Harry's tour of Australia in 2018, which reportedly cemented William's decision to separate their households.

In his book, Lacey claimed William had misgivings about Meghan early on and advised Harry to approach the relationship cautiously. William is said to have confided to a friend his belief that he felt "hurt" and "betrayed" by the growing rift between Meghan and his wife, Kate Middleton, who also allegedly had her own doubts about Meghan from the beginning.

The tension and hurt continued to escalate after Harry and Meghan's infamous Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021, a year following their dramatic exit from the Royal Family. The situation reached its peak after their highly controversial Netflix docuseries.

The couple made several explosive claims about William and Kate, which have never been addressed by the Royal Family, further widening the rift between the couples. In his memoir Spare, Harry gave his account of his wife's relationship with Kate, revealing private details about a disagreement between her and Meghan.

He alleged Kate "grimaced" when Meghan borrowed her lip-gloss and said the women had a disagreement after the Duchess of Sussex said William's wife had "baby brain" following the birth of Prince Louis.

Regardless of the agenda, Harry and Meghan have consistently maintained that Meghan was ostracised within the Royal Family, leading her to feel deeply isolated and depressed. Speaking about her intentions for joining the Royal Family during the Oprah interview, Meghan stated: "I left my career, my life. I left everything because I love him. Our plan was to do this [live their royal life] forever."
