MTV Video Music Awards announce additional categories as Taylor Swift maintains nomination lead

MTV Video Music Awards revealed a new batch of nominations which have unique voting requirements.

Fans will need to head over to MTV's Instagram story to weight in on these Social Categories . The four new nomination categories are Best Trending Video, Best Group, Song of the Summer, and VMAs Most Iconic Performance. Despite the new options, the current standings didn't face much of a shakeup.

Taylor Swift still leads with an overwhelming number of nominations following the release of her album, The Tortured Poets Department. Plus, the addition of an iconic performance category takes fans back to 2009 which would be the same year that her feud with Kanye West kicked off at the award show.

The additions, which come less than two weeks before the big night, also bump Beyonce up with two additional nominations after her massive snub in the initial round-up. Keep an eye out on MTV's social media pages to vote for your favorite artists.
