A Wells Fargo employee in Tempe, Arizona was found dead at her desk after potentially being there for several days.

The Tempe Police said they received a call from co-workers on Tuesday, August 20 after they noticed a foul smell in their office. Following the smell to the third floor of the building, workers at the bank discovered 60-year-old Denise Prudhomme’s body.

Though it is not known when exactly Denise died, authorities believe she may have been dead for four days before her body was discovered. Firefighters and medical personnel arrived on the scene around 4.55 p.m. where they pronounced Denise dead.

According to data from the bank, Denise scanned her ID to get into the building the week before on Friday August 16, no other scans were recorded in or out of the building after Friday. Employees initially thought that the strong odor was an issue with the bank's plumbing.

No sign of foul play was discovered according to police and the cause of death has yet to be determined by the Arizona Officer of Medical Examiner. According to one employee, they wondered why Wells Fargo did not formally address the employees death to the other workers after Denise was found.

Wells Fargo said in a statement to USA TODAY that the company wanted to communicate with Denise’s family before addressing the matter with the other employees. The company said that Denise had her desk in a very “underpopulated area” of the building.

Wells Fargo said in the statement they are deeply saddened by Denise’s death. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, Denise Prudhomme. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones, and we are in contact to ensure they are well supported during this difficult time.

"We are committed to the safety and wellness of our workforce. Counselors are available to support any employees impacted by this event,” Wells Fargo said in a statement. The investigation is still ongoing and authorities are interviewing all the employees at the Wells Fargo location
