Tom Brady's soccer club makes record-breaking Transfer Deadline Day move

Birmingham City, the English soccer club that counts Tom Brady as a part-owner, has made a £10 million ($13.12 million) offer to Fulham for Jay Stansfield.

The proposed transfer fee would set a new record for a League One club. Birmingham City was relegated to the third tier of the English soccer pyramid last season in a crushing blow to Brady and co.

The Stansfield fee would shatter the previous record when Sunderland paid £4million ($5.25 million) for Will Grigg from Wigan. The young striker had an impressive loan spell with Birmingham last season, and it's been rumored for weeks that the Blues were eager to bring him back.

Interestingly, Stansfield was part of Fulham's team that triumphed in the League Cup at Birmingham on Tuesday night, where he scored and was named man of the match. Despite his performance, he is not the first or even second choice at Craven Cottage and is seeking regular playtime.

A lucrative move aligns with Birmingham owners' usual approach, and they are keen to make a statement signing on Transfer Deadline Day - the last day English soccer clubs can sign new players until the window reopens in January.

Stansfield, who cleaned up at the club's awards last season, would be a significant acquisition for the American owners. Adding to the intrigue, Stansfield's brother works at the club, and the 21-year-old player needs more game time to further his career.

The proposed move checks many boxes, but it remains uncertain whether Fulham will accept the bid. After their own substantial spending this summer - including over $70 million on Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe and Crystal Palace defender Joachim Anderson - the west London club may be looking to recoup some funds.

Considering Stansfield's impressive performance at Blues last season and his high regard in the second city, they may not receive such a substantial offer again, especially if he doesn't play this season.
