Devastating information continues to be confirmed after the heartbreaking deaths of NHL star Johnny Gaudreau , with his brother Matthew's wife believed to be five months pregnant .

The Gaudreau brothers were killed after being hit by a driver, Sean M. Higgins, who is suspected of being intoxicated while behind the wheel - having been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide. Higgins was said to have consumed multiple beers prior to driving in his Jeep Grande Cherokee and hitting the brothers who had been on their bicycles. They were tragically found dead at the scene in Oldmans Township, New Jersey .

PEOPLE has reported that Matthew's wife, Madeline, is indeed five months pregnant - with their son expected on December 31.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to aid with the families unexpected expenses after their heartwrenching losses, along with Madeline's baby registry .

Johnny and Matthew had been set to attend their sister's wedding in Philadelphia the next day, with the former's partner, Meredith, listed as a maid-of-honor.

In a statement, Gaudreau's NHL team, the Columbus Blue Jackets paid tribute to the late star, saying: "The Columbus Blue Jackets are shocked and devastated by this unimaginable tragedy. Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but more significantly a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.

"We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Meredith, his children, Noa and Johnny, his parents, their family and friends on the sudden loss of Johnny and Matthew. Johnny played the game with great joy which was felt by everyone that saw him on the ice. He brought a genuine love for hockey with him everywhere he played from Boston College to the Calgary Flames to Team USA to the Blue Jackets.

"He thrilled fans in a way only Johnny Hockey could. The impact he had on our organization and our sport was profound, but pales in comparison to the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him. Johnny embraced our community when he arrived two years ago, and Columbus welcomed him with open arms."

They added: "We will miss him terribly and do everything that we can to support his family and each other through this tragedy. At this time, we ask for prayers for the Gaudreau family and that their privacy be respected as they grieve."

Higgins is believed to have confessed to drinking '5-6 beers' before getting behind the wheel, with him reported to have smelt strongly of alcohol which 'contributed to his impatience and reckless driving'.
