    Fatman Scoop dies at 53 after collapsing on stage in Connecticut and stretchered off in 'emergency'

    Rapper Fatman Scoop has died after collapsing on stage on Friday night.

    The New York rapper was performing at the Green & Gold Party, a free concert in Hamden, Connecticut when he appeared to suffer a "medical emergency."

    Videos of the concert at Hamden Town Center Park show the rapper hyping up the crowd before he walked over to the DJ booth and collapsed out of view of the audience. He appeared to be visibly struggling as he attempted to climb the platform to the booth.

    People rushed to aid Fatman Scoop, real name Issac Freeman III, administering CPR as cries of horror erupted from the audience. As 911 was called, other performers on stage appeared to lead the crowd in prayer, according to various reports.

    Emergency services arrived on the scene around 8:33 p.m. and took him to the hospital. The event was originally scheduled to take place in July, but inclement weather forced the concert to be rescheduled to Friday.

    Fatman Scoop was best known for his 1990s hit song Be Faithful, a throwback song that still gets crowds hyped up today. He was also featured on Missy Elliot's 2005 hit song Lose Control.

    His family shared a post on his Instagram page, confirming the news. "A message from the Freeman Family," it started.

    "It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop," the tribute continued, "Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life. FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and a friend.

    "He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage. FatMan Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club," it went on.

    The tribute ended: "His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten. As we mourn the loss of FatMan Scoop, we also celebrate his remarkable life and the countless lives he touched. FatMan Scoop's legacy is of love and brightness, it will reside in our hearts and memories forever."

    Fans of the rapper shared tributes to the iconic musician. "RIP Fatman Scoop, he literally just re-posted a video I shared the other day of the streets LOSING it to his music 20 years later," one fan wrote, "We grew up on that voice! Thank you for your sound. Rest in paradise."

    "RIP Fatman Scoop, the ultimate hype man," another added. A third commented: "Losing fatman scoop is losing a huge part of culture. an essential part of music and his voice will literally live on forever. rest in peace."

    A fourth added: "Fatman Scoop’s final moments in the physical included doing what he loved." The rapper could be heard on stage telling the crowd: "If you came to party, make some noise," his last words before his collapse.
