Obi Ndefo, known for his role as Bodie Wells in Dawson's Creek , has tragically passed away at the age of 51.

The actor starred alongside Katie Holmes , James Van Der Beek, and Joshua Jackson in the popular drama series. His sister, Nkem Ndefo, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Facebook , writing: "Heartbroken at the loss of my younger brother and knowing he's finally at peace." She also shared a touching photo of the two of them smiling and embracing outdoors.

In a tragic turn of events, Obi lost both of his legs in a horrific accident in August 2019. He was packing up his shopping in a Los Angeles supermarket car park when an SUV veered out of its lane and crashed into him, resulting in the amputation of his left leg.

Despite the devastating incident, Obi remained positive. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he said: "What's the alternative, this is so horrendous what's happened to me. Why would I compound that by feeling bad about it?"

He continued: "There is no choice for me," adding: "So there's a sort of rigor to me and I think, 'OK my legs are severed, I don't know how to do this but I do know how to this."

A GoFundMe page set up to help the injured actor raised over $200,000, which went towards prosthetic legs and modifications to his home to make it more accessible.

Before Obi became a household name on Dawson's Creek, he was honing his craft as a Yale University drama school graduate. He snagged roles in The West Wing and Star Trek: Voyager, but it was his portrayal of Bodie Wells from 1998 to 2002 that made him a fan favorite.

Following the heartbreaking announcement by Obi's sister last Saturday, Mary-Margaret Humes, who played his on-screen mother Gale Leery, shared a heartfelt tribute. She expressed her sorrow, saying, "These words don't come easy."

She continued with a touching homage: "It's hard for me to conceive that you have left us, my dear friend. You always were and always will be a bright shining light. What an example of pure unfiltered love and tenacity you set as you faced life's challenges of recent. I will cherish all of our messages of love and support to each other over the past few years. Rest in peace sweet warrior."

Dawson's Creek, the iconic American teen drama series, followed the ups and downs of a tight-knit group of friends in the fictional Capeside, Massachusetts. Spanning six seasons from January 20, 1998, to May 14, 2003, the show catapulted its cast to stardom, including James Van Der Beek as Dawson Leery and Katie Holmes as Joey Potter, his best friend and romantic interest.
