Scottie Scheffler shows true colors moments after $25m win with perfect reaction

Scottie Scheffler's first reaction to winning $25 million and the FedEx Cup was to celebrate with his baby son Bennett, in heartwarming scenes on the 18th green at East Lake.

After missing out on the season-long crown in 2022 and 2023, Scheffler finally ended his wait, ending the tournament at 30-under-par having kicked off the week at 10-under thanks to the staggered stroke event. Heading into the final round, the Texan's lead was five shots.

And despite a mounted charge by his Ryder Cup and Olympic teammate Collin Morikawa, Scheffler kept his composure to post a final round four-under 67 to clinch the Tour Championship by four shots.

In the immediate aftermath, the world No. 1 was greeted by his son Bennett as well as his wife Meredith, as the trio celebrated as a family in front of a packed crowd in Atlanta. The Scheffler duo welcomed their firstborn into the world earlier this year, just weeks after his victory at the Masters.

Looking back on a year that has included seven PGA Tour wins, an Olympic gold, a major title, and the birth of his first child, Scheffler said in the aftermath: "I feel like I've lived almost a full lifetime in this one year. It's been nuts. I don't know, I think it just always comes back to my faith. I think that's the thing that just keeps me grounded, keeps me in the right frame of mind."

Scheffler commented: "Yeah, I think the gold medal is pretty cool. I think when you hear people chanting 'U-S-A' - even though it's been over a month now since it happened, you still hear people talking about it, chanting.

"It's pretty cool. Like I said, I take a lot of pride in being an American, so pretty fun to bring home that gold medal. As far as the year goes, I really don't know how to put it into words."

Scheffler had headed into the final event of the year having been critical of the staggered stroke system that is based on the FedEx Cup standings heading into the Tour Championship.

Scheffler's 25-week stint at the top of the standings was recognized by a mere two-shot advantage this week, one he was, of course, able to take advantage of, despite previously describing the format as 'silly'. There may well have been some scar tissue within his comments having missed out in the two years previous to Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland.

This time around though his wait is now over. Asked how it felt to finally end his wait at East Lake, the world No. 1 claimed: "It's a lot of fun. We've put in a lot of work to get to this point, and it's been a long week. Right now I'm just pretty tired, so I don't really know how to put this into words. But it's a pretty special feeling to be finally holding the trophy."
