Ludvig Aberg is set to have knee surgery following the conclusion of his PGA Tour season at last week's Tour Championship.

Aberg has emerged as one of golf's brightest stars in the past year, transitioning from a college golf amateur to the world's fourth-best player within a year. During this period, Aberg claimed victories on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, and played a key role in Europe's 2023 Ryder Cup win.

His extraordinary ascent nearly culminated in a Masters victory at Augusta National in April, where he missed out on the title, finishing four shots behind winner Scottie Scheffler.

The second half of the season has been less fruitful for the young golfer, who has been battling an ongoing knee problem. His PGA Tour season concluded at the Tour Championship on Sunday, where he placed 16th in the 30-player event at East Lake.

Aberg's attention will now shift to his health, with Golf Channel reporting that the European star will undergo arthroscopic surgery to mend a torn meniscus in his left knee. According to the report, Aberg could be out of action for up to four weeks, but the 24-year-old is expected to return to the course before the end of 2024.

Despite his meteoric rise to fame, it seems Aberg is keeping his feet on the ground. "There's a lot of new things going on," he shared in Atlanta last week. "But I feel like it's very important for me to separate those things.

"I'm still me. I'm still the same person outside of the golf course. I'm still the same person on the golf course. That doesn't change, which I think is the main important thing for me to keep an eye on and make sure that I have people around me that helps me doing those things.

"Obviously I want to get better at golf. I want to play better golf. I want to play bigger tournaments. I want to play well in bigger tournaments. That's just -- I'm a competitor. But yeah, this 15, 12 months has been amazing for me on the golf course, and it's given me a lot of opportunities and a lot of chances that I haven't had before, and I embrace those and I love playing golf and I love being here."

Aberg continued on his season: "It's been fun. I still consider myself a rookie, even though it's my second year or whatever. But yeah, it's been awesome to play all these big events, have a full season under my belt, and have a lot of cool experiences. I am looking forward to a little bit of a break, but I'm also looking forward to a good finish here at East Lake."
