Justin Thomas shows true colors after breaking silence on Presidents Cup snub

Justin Thomas addressed his omission from the Presidents Cup roster after the team selections were announced.

The rosters were revealed on Tuesday and featured 12 of America’s top golfers, but Thomas's name was notably absent for the first time in eight years. Thomas is a two-time major champion, winning the PGA Championship in 2017 and 2022, and a former world No. 1 ranked player. He has been a mainstay in team events for Team USA, representing the country in multiple Presidents Cups and Ryder Cups.

The exclusion of Thomas from this year's roster shocked golf fans, considering his experience and success in international competitions. He took to Instagram to congratulate FedEx Cup champion and Presidents Cup member Scottie Scheffler on his exceptional season. After reflecting on his own 2024 season, he addressed missing out on being selected. "I’m obviously very bummed not to be joining the boys in Canada for the Presidents Cup, but completely understand. Jim has put together a great team," he wrote.

"I will be the first one pulling for them and watching while using it as motivation to not miss a team event again, as they are some of my favorite weeks I’ve had. It will be nice to have some time to work on things, [such as the] foundation event, some R&R, and even become a dad at the end of November," he continued.

"While I’m excited for the 'off-season,' I’m already looking forward to practicing and getting ready for Maui. Thanks to everybody for their countless support and kind words, as I always appreciate them. That’s enough of me getting in my feels for today."

Despite being a mainstay in the competition, captain Jim Furyk's selections were Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Brian Harman, Russell Henley, and Max Homa. Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, and Sahith Theegala received automatic qualifying bids to make the team.

Thomas did not disclose how he found out that he wouldn't be participating in the tournament at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada from Sept. 24 to 29. But USA golfer Billy Horschel revealed that Furyk informed him of the unwanted news via phone call.

Horschel expressed his disappointment about not making the team , especially considering his close friendship with Furyk. He was caught off guard when he revealed the news to journalists, who measured his excitement for the upcoming tournament.

The Presidents Cup is a golf competition where Team USA competes against an international lineup of top players, except those from Europe who compete in the Ryder Cup. The event is held every two years. Since 1994, Team USA has pretty much dominated, winning all but two competitions. There was a tie in 2003 and a 20.5-11.5 defeat in 1998, but they've been on top overall.

It will be a huge mistake. Justin plays very well in the Fed Ex and President’s Cup. So it will be a huge mistake that he is not on that team I guarantee it.
