Brian May has revealed he's been left with "no control" over his arm after suffering a stroke .

The 77-year-old shared the scary news in an Instagram video as he praised hospital staff. "I hope you're all well out there. I'm here to bring you first of all some good news. I think good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days and I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they called it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden - out of the blue - I didn’t have any control over this arm so was a little scary," he said.

Brian continued: "I have to say I had the most fantastic care and attention from Frimley Hospital where I went blue lights flashing… the lot. Very exciting!" He then revealed why he hadn't said anything when the stroke happened .

"I didn't want anything surrounding, you know. I really don't want sympathy. Please don't do that because it'll clutter up my inbox and I hate that," Brian said.

The guitarist then said he has been advised to do "basically nothing" by doctors. He explained: "I'm not allowed to go out - well, I'm not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, not allowed to raise the heart rate too high... but I'm good."

Despite Brian's request not to, fans rushed to offer their support. "Thanks for the update… Sending every best wish for a full recovery and hoping you’ll be off restrictions soon. I know it’s not in your nature to be idle for very long… Allow yourself to rest and recover. Keeping you in my prayers. Xx, Jane," one person wrote.

Another fan said: "I’m so happy to hear everything is ok. We were worried!!" while a third added: "I’m so glad that you are ok Sir Bri! I was so worried about you! Sending you healing vibes and lots of love!"

This isn't the first health scare Brian has had. The rockstar suffered a heart attack in 2020 when three blocked arteries were discovered. At the time, he said he had been left "very near death".

Speaking in an Instagram video, he explained: "I was shocked, I thought I was a healthy guy. Everyone says I've got a great blood pressure and I keep fit, I bike, good diet.

"I had - in the middle of the whole saga of the painful backside - I had a small heart attack. I say small, it's not something that did me any harm. It was about 40 minutes of pain in the chest and tightness. It's that feeling in the arms and sweating." Doctors suggested performing open heart surgery, but Brian instead opted to have three stents put inside his heart.
