Tragedy struck Labor day as police discovered the corpse of a missing three-year-old in a Pennsylvania pond late Monday evening.

Tredyffrin Township law enforcement authorities responded to calls of a missing c hild about 20 miles beyond Philadelphia in Chesterbrook's Wilson Farm park Monday evening. The youngster was under the care of a nanny just before he disappeared, according to police.

Authorities quickly located the child and performed life-saving efforts until he was rushed to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, King of Prussia Campus. "There's no swimming in that pond, no fishing in that pond. It's more decorative than anything else. It's about 100 yards down from the playground," Captain Tyler Moyer told WPVI.

The unidentified child eventually died at the hospital and the investigation is ongoing. "On behalf of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department, we are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and we send our deepest condolences to the child's family," the department said in a statement.

Police advised residents to steer clear of the area surrounding the park as the presence of law enforcement had been ramped up, complete with helicopter units. "Due to an ongoing investigation, please avoid the area surrounding Wilson Farm Park. There is an increase in police activity, including helicopters in the vicinity. More information will be provided as it becomes available. There is NO threat to the public," the department tweeted on X. The park was bustling with people celebrating the work holiday, but Moyer said the child was found quickly.

"There was hundreds of people around, you know a beautiful day like [Monday], people were having picnics, they were using the pavilions, things like that, the playground was packed full of people," Moyer told FOX 29. Wilson Farm Park measures at 90 acres and contains three pavilions, picnic areas, an amphitheater and multiple athletic fields.

No one is allowed to swim in the pond and it's not used for recreational purposes. It was said to be the fuel source for the park's sprinkler system.

In April, the body of a missing 5-year-old boy with autism was found dead in a pond near his Chester County home, according to police. Kennett Township law enforcement officials arrived on the 600 block of Chandler Mill Road to conduct their search, sweeping the child's home, neighboring homes and "large wooded area."

Authorities located the boy's body in a pond on a neighboring property and performed resuscitation efforts to no avail. First responders transported him to Nemours Children's Hospital in Delaware where he was pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding the child's death weren't immediately made clear.
