    Chilling Apalachee High School shooting video shows students 'fleeing' as Georgia cops swarm

    A chilling video showing students running away from school after an unknown person opened fire at Apalachee High School in Georgia leaving a number of casualties.

    The harrowing footage, captured from a drone above the school , showed dozens of police cars surrounding the area as two unknown figures race away from the scene.

    According to the Athens Banner-Herald, the school sent a message to parents moments after the shooting saying: “Apalachee High School is currently in a hard lockdown after reports of gunfire. Law enforcement is here. Please do not attempt to come to the school at this time while officers work to secure the area."

    Multiple calls were made about a shooting incident at the high school late Wednesday morning, prompting immediate action with the school being placed under strict lockdown.

    A helicopter was spotted hovering over the school as police responded to the situation, and it's reported that one victim has been airlifted, reports the Irish Star .

    Eyewitnesses and those who tuned into a livestream witnessed a significant police presence at the scene, along with at least a dozen ambulances and firetrucks.

    Worried parents took to social media to express their fear about the situation, while footage on social media reveals the extent of the chaos unfolding at the scene.

    Police have revealed that a suspect was in custody but would not give any further details on their name, age or gender. It is not also yet known what happened, but investigators did confirm there were 'casualties'.

    The FBI also revealed it was supporting local police, saying: “FBI Atlanta is aware of the current situation at Apalachee High School. Our agents are on scene coordinating with and supporting local law enforcement.”

    Posting to X, formerly known as Twitter, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said: "I have directed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state.

    "We will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners as we gather information and further respond to this situation"
