Georgia's Governor Brian Kemp called for prayers after a shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County on Wednesday morning sent shockwaves through the community.

The suspect is in custody and casualties are confirmed .

Governor Kemp took to social media platform X and said: "I have directed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state."

He continued: "We will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners as we gather information and further respond to this situation."

Kemp's post drew immediate reactions, with many commenters pleading for legislative change to prevent such tragedies from recurring, reports the Irish Star .

Authorities have swarmed the area, with a significant police force on-site.
