Student Colt Gray, 14, was named as the Apalachee High School shooting suspect , the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said.

Gray was taken into police custody. Police said he will be charged with murder. Police confirmed he was a student at the school.

Four people, including two teachers and two students, are dead and 30 are injured after an active shooter opened fire inside a Georgia high school.

The shooting took place at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georiga , late Wednesday morning. The school was immediately placed on a hard lockdown.

President Joe Biden said he is "mourning the deaths" of the people killed and condemned the gun violence epidemic in the country.

“What should have been a joyous back-to-school season in Winder, Georgia , has now turned into another horrific reminder of how gun violence continues to tear our communities apart," the president said in a statement. "Students across the country are learning how to duck and cover instead of how to read and write. We cannot continue to accept this as normal."

Biden also used his statement to push for Congress to act and pass an assault weapons ban. “After decades of inaction, Republicans in Congress must finally say ‘enough is enough’ and work with Democrats to pass common-sense gun safety legislation,” he added.

Apalachee High School is located in Winder, Georgia, which is about 45 miles northeast of Atlanta and 25 miles west of Athens, the home of the University of Georgia. Students had been back in class for just over a month as of Wednesday — having returned from summer break on August 1.
