'I'm pregnant and we've picked a baby name - but people say it's for women's privates

An expectant mother is standing firm on her baby name choice, despite her friends rejecting it .

Choosing a name that both parents agree on can be a tiring process, regardless of how many baby name books are consulted. In recent years, the norms around naming our children have relaxed - these days, almost anything is acceptable (we're looking at you, Elon Musk ).

However, one woman has criticized her pregnant friend for deciding on an unusual name for both a boy and a girl before the baby's birth - even though some people think it sounds like a cream used for private areas, reports the Mirror .

On Reddit , a woman shared that her friend plans to name her baby Raven if it's a boy, and Femily if it's a girl. "At first we thought it was her hormones but her husband agrees with her," she stated.

"They have painted the baby room and ordered towels, baby grows etc with initials on key pieces, saying if they get a girl they will save the other stuff for when they have a boy and vice versa." The friend slammed the choices, claiming Raven is a 'girl's name' and that Emily would be a 'perfectly reasonable' alternative to Femily.

"I asked her why that name and she said, if her baby turns out with jet black her and her blue eyes he will be the cutest baby ever, and a very handsome man when he grows up," the post reads. "Both of them have ginger hair so I don't know how they think their child will end up with jet black. I know she has a favourite book with a character that looks like that, but even in the book the main character doesn't have that name.

Hundreds of users flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts, with many expressing disapproval of the name Femily and labeling it 'awful'. In fact, one particular user argued the name should be 'punishable by law'.

"Femily sounds like a brand of discount feminine hygiene spray that was taken off the market after it caused labial tumors," one person wrote. Another agreed, commenting: "Femily sounds like a cream for thrush."

A third argued it sounds like the 'stage name for a drag queen' while a fourth added: "Femily sounds like a brand of birth control."

The discussion around Raven was less heated, but most users still disliked the name for a boy. "Raven is definitely the lesser of the evils in this case," one person wrote.

Another said: "Raven is forgivable. That's the end of my positive feedback."

How is the child going to feel? Have the parents tried shouting it out like calling the child home from the playground?
