Caitlin Clark makes mockery of exclusive WNBA club with astonishing record in reach

Caitlin Clark added another feather to her cap on Wednesday by becoming the first rookie to record 100 3-point field goals in a single WNBA season.

Clark's latest display followed a 96-93 win over the Los Angeles Sparks . The No. 1 overall pick scored 24 points with 10 assists and 10 rebounds. She also became the first player in WNBA history to record not one but two triple-doubles in a single rookie campaign.

Only five other players in WNBA history have recorded 100 3-point field goals in a single season: Sabrina Ionescu , Diana Taurasi, Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, and Kelsey Mitchell. Clark now has an outside chance of breaking Ionescu's record for the most 3-point field goals in a single season - 128, set just 12 months ago.

Wednesday's win extended the Fever’s winning streak to five games. Over that period, Clark has averaged 29.2 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent from the 3-point line. She has been nearly perfect from the free-throw line, shooting 95 percent.

Clark’s chemistry with former No. 1 Fever pick Aliyah Boston was on full display , with six of her ten assists leading directly to Boston buckets. Their synergy saw Clark dump the ball to Boston for several easy layups, including a behind-the-back pass in transition during the fourth quarter that extended the Fever's lead to eight points.

Clark orchestrated the offense without a break, playing all 40 minutes of the game. She hit her 100th three-pointer of the season, and no other player reached the mark as quickly as Clark.

Her latest performance against LA also adds to her track record against the Sparks this season. In May, Clark dropped a then-career-high 30 points against the Sparks, making three 3-pointers on ten attempts. That total has since been eclipsed after Clark's performance against the Chicago Sky, where she scored 31 points.

At one point in the game, Clark was just one rebound away from officially recording the achievement. Speaking to the media after the game, she walked Fever fans through her performance and the team's victory. "Of course, I knew," said Clark. "Honestly, we were just trying to get stops. I thought our defense got a lot better there at the end of the game, but we need to find a way to be consistent there for four quarters," she critiqued.

"Proud of our group. We found a way to get it done. But somebody had to get the rebound, and AB [Boston] always jokes about stealing each other's rebound, so that was funny," Clark mentioned with a laugh.

Angel Reese can't score in the paint, and nobody contests her shots at all like they do Caitlin Clark when she's in the paint . . . now do they? Why is that? Well, how else can Angel Reese set the all-time WNBA rebounding record, not just the rookie rebounding record? If someone would contest those rebounds as hard as some commentators praise Angel Reese for fighting so hard to get those rebounds. She couldn't, and the WNBA knows it, in my opinion. Angel Reese is not going to be the WNBA rookie of the year. A better rookie will, and it may not be Caitlin Clark even though she is a much better candidate for the honor than Angel Reese.

She was very good at the beginning of the season. What’s really impressive is, she’s learned throughout the season to play in the professionals league versus college, and now she is absolutely one of the best in the league and just a few short months she is quite the basketball player. For superior, then Reese and any other rookie
