Police have identified the mother and children found dead with gunshot wounds in a Bullard home earlier this week, saying all persons were dead except for an 8-month-old baby who's in stable condition.

Texas authorities described the tragic scene as the apparent result of gun violence. Tatyanna Smith, 25, was found shot to death along with her two kids: Madilynn "May May" Evans, 4, and Maison, 2, "Mace Mace" Evans. Smith's youngest, 8-month-old Lyric Minter, is said to be in stable condition at a Dallas hospital, according to Bullard Police Department Det. Judith Tuell.

Police are treating the case as a homicide and made clear there was no overarching threat to the public.

Police arrived in the 500 block of Guinn Street in Bullard, near the high school, around 6:55 p.m. Sunday. Officers discovered four people inside the home: Smith, Madilynn and Maison, who were pronounced dead at the scene, and young Lyric who was rushed to a hospital in Tyler in critical condition.

“Once the location was secured, we requested Smith County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit,” Bullard Police Chief Jeff Bragg said. “They came out to the location and processed the scene.”

The scene was promptly secured as officers assured community residents they were in no danger. Bragg said Lyric was injured by a gunshot and transferred to a Dallas hospital for advanced care. She's in stable condition. The three corpses were sent to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science for autopsies.

“We’ve spoken with numerous individuals surrounding the case,” Bragg said Tuesday. “We’re trying to inform everybody as much as possible, as much as we can, without hindering the investigation.”

The community is shocked and equally saddened by the tragic events. “It doesn’t make you feel comfortable with it happening right there, in your face,” a neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said to CBS19 in an interview. “I’ve only ever seen crimes on TV, so having it right there is kind of just a dose of reality.”

The neighbor described a precarious scene as she watched "six to seven" police cars roll into the neighborhood. “I went out to get or drop the trash into our bin at some time after 7 p.m., and there was already six to seven police cars,” she told CBS19. “We knew it was bad when after about an hour or so, they packed up all the life saving measures, and we saw a medical examiner or a detective.”

“It still scares us. I mean we know that it’s not, ‘it doesn’t happen here.’ That’s not true,” neighbor said. “People feel that way, but it’s not true. Either way, it sucks. It’s really heartbreaking.”
